The video explains why telehealth is important for people living in rural America. When someone has a stroke, doctors say “time is brain.” This means that every minute without treatment damages the brain. In rural areas, hospitals often do not have specialists who can treat strokes quickly. As a result, many rural patients have worse outcomes than people in cities.
Telehealth can help solve this problem. One important tool is “Telestroke.” With Telestroke, a specialist can connect by video from anywhere, look at the patient, read brain scans, and decide what treatment is needed. This can save lives because patients receive help faster. Studies show that Telestroke reduces deaths among rural patients.
The video also explains that telehealth is not just video calls. It includes remote monitoring, where patients use devices like a Bluetooth blood pressure monitor that send information to their doctor. Another type is “store-and-forward,” where information collected by a nurse is sent later to a specialist.
However, telehealth is often underfunded and not used as much as it could be. Supporters believe that if it is used correctly, it could greatly improve healthcare in rural communities.
