Buford, an Anatolian shepherd, guards the Dutton ranch and walks its borders to keep wildlife away. One morning he brings a young blonde boy to the ranch—this boy had wandered off and his parents reported him missing. The Yavapai County sheriff and other teams searched for 16 hours using people on foot, ATVs, trucks, and helicopters. Buford found the boy sleeping under a tree about seven miles from home. The child survived the rough terrain with only minor scratches. Parent Danielle Dutton plans to thank Buford by cooking him steak.
