Mae Stephens has been signed to EMI records after her song "If We Ever Broke Up" went viral on social media site TikTok. The 19-year-old singer-songwriter, who has been writing songs since she was 12 years old, has received over 11 million views for her song. The track entered the Official Singles Chart at number 45 two weeks ago and has since climbed to number 20.
Stephens expressed her excitement at being signed to a major record label, describing her chart success as "absolutely incredible". She has now quit her job at a local supermarket to focus on her music full-time. The artist is also planning a music video for the track and live performances.
Despite her busy schedule, Stephens is still able to spend time with her family and partner, who she credits as being "incredible" and "very supportive". She said, "It's a bit of a shock to be honest, I still can't believe everything that happened to me. I feel so lucky to have this in my life and to be blessed as a musician. It's so surreal, it feels like I'm in a dream."
