Fat Bear Week is an annual event held at Katmai National Park in Alaska, where the public votes for the fattest bear. This competition celebrates bears who bulk up the most before hibernation . During the harsh Alaskan winter, bears don't eat or drink, so they rely on their fat reserves to survive. By the end of winter, bears can lose up to one-third of their body weight . Fat Bear Week has been held for 11 years, and it's a fun way to educate the public about the importance of this fat accumulation for bear survival . This year, there are 11 bears competing, including the famous 32 Chunk, known for eating 42 salmon in 10 hours and weighing over 500 kilos. Last year’s winner, Grazer, is also in the competition, and fans eagerly await the final result on October 8th. The competition is streamed live via webcams, allowing everyone to follow the bears’ journey.
