Rules & Explanations
WH-words help us ask questions about different things: Who - Asks about a person (subject). Example: Who is your teacher? Whom - Asks about a person (object of the verb). Example: Whom did you invite? Whose - Asks about possession. Example: Whose phone is this? What - Asks for information about things. Example: What is your name? Which - Asks for a specific choice. Example: Which book do you want? Where - Asks about a place. Example: Where do you live? When - Asks about time. Example: When is your birthday? Why - Asks about reasons. Example: Why are you late? How - Asks about manner or method. Example: How do you study?
Important Rules:
''Whom'' is less common in modern English and is usually replaced by ''who'' in casual speech.
WH-words go at the beginning of a question.
Use ''do'' or ''does'' in the present simple when there is no ''be'' verb.
Example: Where does he live? (Not: Where he live?)
WH-questions cannot be answered with ''yes'' or ''no'' because they require specific information.
