With her delicately beautiful face and soulful dark eyes, for decades Camille Claudel was merely known for being Rodin's muse and mistress. Her own talents and originality as a sculptor lay in obscurity until very recently.

Camille showed early signs of her artistic genius; she was fascinated with stone and soil, which would later become her media of expression. At a time when very few schools welcomed women, she studied Art and went on to become Rodin's student and assistant.

Later, their relationship crumbled as she believed he was treating her unfairly. She soon became reclusive and increasingly mentally ill. At 78 years of age, she passed away, after having spent 30 years in a mental asylum.
