Pride Month, celebrated in June, is an entire month dedicated to celebration of LGBTQ culture and the support of the community’s rights. During this month, there are parades, protests, drag performances, memorials and celebrations of life for members of the community who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. It first started in the United States, but it soon began being celebrated in the whole world.

Pride Month is celebrated in June to remember the Gay Liberation Movement that took place in 1969, in New York. One of the many symbols of the Pride month is the rainbow flag created by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. But did you know that each color has its own meaning? Red represents life, orange represents healing, yellow is sunshine, green is for nature, blue for harmony and purple for spirit. In 2021, the flag was altered in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter protests, including black to represent diversity, brown to represent inclusivity and light blue and pink, the colors of the trans pride flag.
