Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is home to many successful video game makers, including the makers of the popular game, Clash of Clans, and Netflix's first gaming studio. Despite not being known for technology, Helsinki is considered the mobile gaming capital of the world, with the mobile gaming industry being worth an estimated £120bn.

The reason for this success goes back to the 1980s and 1990s when Finland was not very wealthy, and many people had limited access to computers. Programmers created games, art, and music that pushed the limits of their technology, which created a subculture called the "demoscene." When Nokia came along, it showed that great things could be created in Finland. Today, Helsinki's success in the gaming industry is due, in part, to Nokia's example and the city's foundation in the "demoscene" subculture.

People in the city are very aware of its success in the games space, and happy to chat about it in bars and coffee shops. It's clearly been an area that politicians and officials have sought to capitalise on as well.
