This week, a new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights has been released. The film has attracted attention because of its passionate and modern style, aimed at a younger generation, especially TikTok users. The story, originally written by Emily Brontë, is closely connected to the village of Haworth in Yorkshire, where the Brontë sisters lived.

The wild Yorkshire moors, which inspired the novel, are described as grey, rainy and bleak, but perfect for the atmosphere of a Brontë story. Haworth is not only a tourist attraction but also a cultural shrine for literature lovers. The new film, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, has increased interest in the village and brought many new visitors.

Rebecca York, director of the Brontë Museum, attended the film premiere and felt excited and emotional seeing Yorkshire on screen. However, some local residents, like historian David Pearson, are concerned that visitors may see Haworth as a fictional place, like a theme park, instead of a real town where people live. Despite this, the film is clearly creating excitement and discussion in the community.
