The job market in 2026 shows mixed signals. A recent jobs report reveals that employers added more jobs than expected, but the unemployment rate also rose to 4.6%. According to LinkedIn’s editor-in-chief, Dan Roth, these figures reflect important changes in the world of work.
One major trend is the growing use of AI in recruitment. In the past, many people were worried about AI interviews, but acceptance is increasing. A large study with 70,000 applicants shows that many candidates preferred an AI recruiter to a human one. AI interviews can feel less intimidating and may help companies identify different types of candidates, which could improve diversity. Job seekers are also encouraged to practice interviews with AI tools to prepare for future hiring processes.
Another important trend is boomerang hiring, where employees return to a company they worked for before. Some organizations reduced staff because of AI, but later regretted these decisions. They realized that human workers bring essential skills, such as empathy in customer service, and decided to hire people back.
Finally, colleges are increasingly including AI in their degree programs to better prepare students, as AI skills are now required in many jobs.
