The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo da Vinci, is one of the most famous artworks globally. Leonardo started painting it around 1503, commissioned by Francesco del Giocondo. Despite working on it for ten years, he left it unfinished upon his death in 1519. The painting gained more fame after being displayed publicly at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Its notoriety peaked when it was stolen in 1911 by Vincenzo Perugia, a former Louvre employee, leading to a worldwide sensation. However, the painting was recovered, making headlines and solidifying its status as a national treasure .
