Why do we kiss under the mistletoe?

The tradition of kissing under mistletoe during Christmas has roots in ancient European mythology and biology. With over 1,000 mistletoe species worldwide, the plant fascinated ancient cultures. In Roman and Druid beliefs, mistletoe was seen as a divine plant with healing powers. Scandinavian legends connect mistletoe to the story of Baldur's death and resurrection, transforming it from a symbol of death to one of peace and love. Frigg, Baldur's mother, overlooked mistletoe in her protective spells, leading to his demise. The gods agreed to a truce under mistletoe branches, spreading love into the world.
