TIME ADVERBIAL: AGO

We use 'ago' to show how far back in the past something happened. 'Ago,' refers to some time in the past.
'Ago' uses the simple past tense. You can think of 'ago' as='before now.'

So we use: Time Reference + Ago (=before now)

Examples:
- The movie ended ten minutes ago. (= The movie ended ten minutes before now.)
- The plane landed two hours ago. (= The plane landed two hours before now.)
- My son was born six years ago. (= He was born six years before now.)
- Her husband died five years ago. (= Her husband died five years before now.)
- I took that photo many years ago. (= I took that photo many years before now.)
- I came to this city a long time ago. (= I came to this city a long time before now.)

Here are some time refrences you can use with Ago:

• ... five minutes ago
• ... an hour ago
• ... a long time ago
• ... many years ago
• ... ten years ago

TIME ADVERBIAL: LAST

We use last + Time Reference to mean the most recent or nearest to the present day time.
We use last before a Past Time Reference such as Monday, week, month, March, etc.

Examples:
- I saw a movie on TV last night.
- My parents traveled to Spain last month.
- They arrived in America last January.
- Last Christmas I got a lot of presents.
- We met at the beach last summer.
- Last year they got married.

TIME ADVERBIAL: YESTERDAY

We use yesterday or yesterday + morning / afternoon / evening to talk about the day before today.

Examples:
- He wore a suit to work yesterday.
- We got up early yesterday morning.
- She left the hotel yesterday afternoon.
- Yesterday evening he called me.
