The dilemma between pursuing a passionate career and choosing a safer, more dependable path is explored. The "safe path" involves learning a reliable profession over time, which may bring boredom but guarantees job security. On the other hand, the "passionate path" involves following one's true interests, but this can lead to anxiety about financial instability and failure. Choosing safety by pursuing a job out of fear or obligation is not as secure as it seems. When we do something we dislike or fear, we are not truly safe. In today's competitive world, a backup career can be someone else's dream job, putting us at a disadvantage. The passionate path, despite its risks, offers the potential for mastery because we are motivated by our love for the work and are more willing to put in the effort. Failure in a passion project is less painful than spending an entire career in a job we dislike. Ultimately, forcing ourselves to do something we hate to survive is not safety but masochism. If we have a passion, we should take the risk to follow it, as ignoring it is more harmful in the long run.
