Two giant pandas, Xing Qiu and Yi Lan, have arrived in South Australia as part of a special international loan from China. Unlike other zoo animals, pandas are owned exclusively by China, and lending them to foreign countries is considered a diplomatic gesture. Australia had previously hosted two pandas, Wang Wang and Fu Ni, for 15 years, but their contract ended, and they returned to China. The arrival of the new pandas was a long process, involving careful preparation and transportation. Each panda has a unique personality—Xing Qiu is calm and curious, while Yi Lan is energetic and adventurous. Australia hopes that, unlike their predecessors, these pandas will successfully breed in their new home. The careful transition and monitoring show how much effort goes into panda diplomacy.
