Many people today feel tired, stressed, and overwhelmed because they spend too much time on their phones. With apps like Instagram and TikTok asking for constant attention, some people want to disconnect and live more in the real world. This trend is called “ appstinence ”, which means choosing to use fewer apps or no apps at all.
Some hotels now offer digital detox areas with no Wi-Fi, so guests can relax without screens. In daily life, many people also feel addicted to scrolling and say it affects their mental health. In fact, 33% of people said reducing screen time was their number one New Year’s resolution. On average, Americans spend five hours a day on screens.
To help with this problem, new tools have appeared. Some apps limit screen time, while others use physical devices like Brick, which blocks apps until the user unlocks them again. Some people even switch to simple phones with only calls and texts. Experts say digital detox can make people happier, more focused, and healthier. Many people also start reading, exercising, and spending more time with family.
