New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year, December 31st, and many people around the world celebrate it with parties, family gatherings, and special traditions. In many countries, people stay up late to watch fireworks at midnight.
• In Spain, people eat twelve grapes, one for each chime of the clock at midnight. This is believed to bring good luck for the twelve months of the new year.
• In the United States, one famous tradition is the “ball drop” in New York City. A large ball falls from a tall building, and when it reaches the bottom at midnight, people cheer and celebrate the new year.
• In Japan and Korea, people ring big bells in temples. In Japan, the bells are rung 108 times to remove bad luck and bring happiness for the new year. Families often visit temples or take part in special rituals to honor their ancestors.

In many countries, people make “New Year’s resolutions,” which are promises to improve their lives, like exercising more, learning something new, or being kind to others. Some people celebrate quietly at home with family and friends, while others go to big parties with music, dancing, and food. In some places, people also sing traditional songs, light candles, or watch the sunrise on January 1st to start the year in a good way. New Year’s is a happy time because it is a moment to remember the past year, say goodbye to old problems, and welcome a fresh start. Even though celebrations are different in each country, most people share joy, hope, and happiness at this special time. Everyone looks forward to new opportunities, new dreams, and spending time with loved ones.
