An AI agent is a practical application of artificial intelligence. While AI represents the intelligence and potential of machines, it requires a task to become useful. An AI agent takes this potential and turns it into action. It is the hands-on version of AI, capable of performing tasks such as answering questions, automating work, or managing to-do lists. The difference between AI and an AI agent is that AI has the knowledge, but an agent makes things happen. The process of an AI agent includes three steps: understanding, thinking, and acting. First, AI agents listen to what you're asking. Then, they process this information to figure out how best to help you. Finally, they act by providing an answer, solution, or assistance in completing a task.
